An enigmatic comet 3I/Atlas ☄️ that took the spotlight from its discovery in July 2025. This mysterious object threw a hardball at the comet and the interstellar objects’ knowledge of Earthlings. As it comes closer, its mystery deepens. As we all know, it’s the third interstellar object, and it is exhibiting very unique behavior when compared to normal comets, which are known to us till now.
Unique characteristics
Anti- Tail
A strange and new property exhibited by this comet bewildered the entire space science community. What exactly is that? Let’s understand in simple terms, generally, as the comet goes towards the Sun, it releases volatile gas particles and water particles, if it has any, by creating a tail-like structure with the gas dust in the direction opposite to the Sun.
Are we observing the anti-tail property in Comet for the first time? No, few comets have shown such anti-tail property, but it is just a perspective from Earthlings’ view, as the Earth crosses the comet’s path, sunlight gives an anti-tail view.
However, the 3I/atlas is releasing gas particles directly pointing towards the Sun. Completely defying the behavior of the comet tail. The anti-tail, which we are observing in the 3I/Atlas, is not perspective from Earth; it is just directly projected towards the sun. The 3I/ Atlas ‘anti-tail behavior is the first of its kind ever known to humans.
Metal detection
Nickel tetracarbonyl emission from the comet is strange; it is not available in nature only present in industrial metallurgy. Also, it is emitting nickel without iron in it; a few comets previously had both nickel and iron in them. Only emitting Nickel, which is not available naturally anywhere in the solar system. A question arises about its origin: is it really a comet, are any artificial prob, are such materials naturally available in the star system it came from?
Unique chemical composition
High amounts of carbon dioxide.
Emitting gas dust with high Nickel with no iron.
Generally, all the comets have iron in them, whereas 3I/Atlas has no iron in it.
Emitting its own light
A few months back, everyone thought the light coming from the comet was the solar rays reflection but it is not the solar rays’ effect. It is producing its own light near its core.
It can be anything like the scientists suspect, it can be from another star system where nickel and its composition is a natural phenomenon there, unlike Earth, it’s man-made. High chances of it being an alien technology that we are not aware of. Since its property is so strange and new to us. It’s very difficult to define it at present. Soon, we will come to know about. If it’s an alien probe, they will contact us or invade Earth. If it is natural comet ☄️ with unique characteristics, then it opened a new learn path in space science. In recent TESS observations, scientists observed that it has no tail at all. Soon, we may unlock the answer to all these enigmas.
