Are you up for an adventurous reading? Then with out any delay join me in the deep water expedition series. First among these series is Mythical city Atlantis which is fascinating scientists and geologists from many decades.
The world in which we are living is not fully known to us. It is full of mysteries which we are yet to discover. As we all know 71% of the Earth is covered by water and holds the dark and deep mysteries unknown to us.
There are deep jungles, Mountains, Caves, seas and oceans untouched by human civilization. These unknown places hold many facts not known to the humans.
These places always fascinates humans. Some of these places are discoveries from ancient books. One such place is Mythical city, Atlantis. This place was described by the great Greek philosopher, Plato, in his work Timaeus and Critias.
The lost city increased interest among the geologists and oceanololgists which lead to underwater expedition. Scientists and geologists around the world are conducting many under water expeditions from many years in search of the lost civilization.
Do feel like you heard some where about this Mystical city, Atlantis? Let me refresh your memory. Have you watched Aquaman, Aquaman and the lost city , Journey to the mysterious Island and 10,000 BC? All this movies have taken references about the Lost city, Atlantis.
What is so special about Atlantis?
According to Plato, the people who lived in Atlantis used have an advanced technology which is not know to mankind. Atlantis is a valorous kingdom with extraordinary architectural structures and advanced technology usage.
The most amazing fact about the Plato’s work is that the Atlantis civilization was written 2,400 year back. That dates backs to 400 BCE, Plato, wrote about the 9000 years old advance civilization, a Maritime empire which is much before than his era.
The great civilization description in Plato’s work created the curiosity among many Geologist and people across the global. This lead to many underwater expeditions.
You may wonder why underwater expedition and not on land. Since, it is clearly mentioned that the great civilization; submerged in the water with in one day due to Tsunami and Earth quakes.
However, according to the story, the Atlantean’s became hubris in nature due their valour in battle. The behavior of Atlantean made them face the wrath of gods. As a result, the entire civilization was wiped out by ocean.
Based on this, numerous underwater expedition are being carried out on from many decades. But every time it left a group of Geologists with disappointment and no luck of finding this Island.
They were unable to find any kind of trace of Atlantis, the places where Plato mentioned in his book. Many started believing it is just a fictional work of Plato to teach philosophy to the people.
Many geologist consider Mythical city Atlantis as a beautiful fictional work of Plato. If it it really exist they must be able to find it by now, what do you think my dear reader?
Under water Expedition to Mythical city Atlantis
Many debates and research happen till date regarding the exact location of Atlantis. Some of the argument was it is beneath the coastal waters of Spain. Some argued it is in Antarctica, whereas some others claim ‘Eye of Sahara’ is the Atlantis.
Coast of Spain
In the November 2018, UK satellite happen to capture few ancient ruins found in the southern coast of Spain. Merlin Burrows claims they found Atlantis. However, he isn’t the first person who claimed Atlantis is located in the Southern Spain region.
Other Geologists argue the ruins which they found in the Doñana National Park with the help of Landsat 5 and Landsat 8 is not from the date of Maritime Empire as per Plato mentions. The close analysis provides the results dated back to hunters’ era.
Antarctica
Most interesting finding of Atlantis in Antractica took place during 1960 and 1970. An Italian Engineer, Flavio Barbiero, did a research where Antarctica was ice free. During this time the climate was mild and habitable for humans.
One can know more about the findings in the Book “Civilization under the Ice”. He believes the civilization is 34 million years old where the Earth’s polar axis is different to present day. The polar axis of Earth is reverse due to either comet or asteroid collision. On basis of this theory, the Atlantean civilization would have gone under the deep thick ice.
Eye of Sahara desert(Richat Structure)
Some believe the Eye of Sahara Desert is the Atlantis. Some even claim the rocks found there also match the date. Others claim the structural formation of the eye when pictured from space looks similar to Plato’s description of Atlantis.
The Atlantis city is surround by the circular water body and immediately followed by land and water. They believe that the river used to flow in this region.
The eye of Sahara was first found in 1965 when NASA sent Gemini IV spaceflight to take pictures of Earth. On the fourth, they found this amazing formation. This formation opens doors for many scientific research like any comet collision, Earth formation and many more including Atlantis theory.
My Analysis about the Atlantis
In my analysis, Eye of Sahara is not Atlantis because the length of Sahara eye is about 40 km in width. Whereas according Plato’s description about Maritime kingdom Island, is it is the size of Asia and Libya combined.
People are still in search of Atlantis. As of now we can only conclude it is mythical city amazing fiction story of Plato. I hope with advance in technology like Drain the Ocean, the usage of Bathymetric sonar scan and photogrammetry(excellent techniques for finding the unknown in Deep waters) will be prominent, where we get to see the clear picture of the sea bed.
According to Indians, the greatest city Dwaraka is Atlantis. As this ancient city also sunk underwater due to Tsunami, after Lord Krishna departed Earth and went to his abode. But, unfortunately Dwaraka is not Atlantis. To know more about this Click the below link.
