“Gulab Jamun”, the name even though looks like Indian, but the dessert originated in Maldivian Iran. There are different theory behind how this delicious dessert landed in India.

First one is the Turkish conquerors are believed to introduce this dish here. Another one goes like one day chef of Shah Jahan accidentally made this.

In Hindi Gulab is rose, similarly in Persian they refer to this as rose water, a beautiful flavored syrup. Jamun is named in the reference to Indian fruit black plum since it look similar to the fruits shape and size.

Simple and easy recipe with MTR Jamun Mix

Firstly prepare required amount of caramel syrup

Once it is done keep it aside

Pour MTR mixture into a bowl and mix well with either water/milk.

Once the batter is ready keep it aside for 10 minutes.

Now take a small pieces from batter and make round balls.

After that heat the oil in a pan, once it is hot enough, fry the balls in the hot oil.

When it turns golden brown color, remove it and keep it aside in separate plate.

Once all the balls are fried and turned into golden brown color, place all these beautiful balls in the caramel syrup.

Let the balls to soak well in the caramel syrup for about 30 minutes to 1 hour and then serve.

  1. Gulab jamun brings me so much memories when I was young. It was a tradition at home to prepare MTR Jamuns whenever we had relatives or when the craving kicks in.
